Patterned Imprinted Concrete

Patterned imprinted concrete can be a very innovative skill. This method uses colours and patterns to decorate concrete driveways, patios, and paths. This gives concrete the appearance of natural materials like stone, slate, and timber. This process eliminates the high price of natural products.

Minimal Maintenance

Patterned concrete is an exclusive product that requires very little maintenance. It performs far better than alternative products such as block pavers, flagstones, tarmac or flagstones. Many problems can be eliminated by using a dolomite subbase and four inches fibre reinforced concrete. These issues include sinking and weeds as well as moss. Alternative products are available. Wood decked patios are more susceptible to block paving, wood decay and pest control.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?

Simply put, patterned concrete is also known as stamped concrete. It involves pouring concrete onto a sub-base and then applying a color followed by a hardener. This is quite different to traditional concreting, where you used blocks to create your finished.

Once the concrete is cured, the pattern is applied. You can choose from many different prints, such as brickwork or textured stone. Patterned concrete is an attractive choice for domestic properties, particularly when it comes to lining driveways.

Good quality print

The quality of the printed cement is what you should be focusing on. Laying fresh concrete requires extreme care, dedication, and patience. Less consistency in concrete form can result in a poorly constructed concrete floor.

A contractor will typically use six to eight rigid matsa and one flexible mat per set. To span the narrowest part of the driveway, six mats will be required. Flexible mats, on the other hand, are used to access print areas and print in places where the rigid mats won’t.

Although most printing mats measure 600x600mm in size, it is possible to order matts up to 600x600mm.

Colour Consistency

When installing imprinted concrete, it is important to keep in mind the color consistency to ensure your flooring achieves what you want. The main components in patterned concrete include antique release agents and colour surface toughener.

Poor final appearance can be caused by poor application of colour surface hardener. This is especially evident in commercial jobs larger than retail shop flooring.

Concrete deliveries will be required for large commercial jobs. Each concrete mix will have slight colour differences. The purpose of the surface hardener is to match the colours together after they have been applied. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.

Ensuring Long-Term Durability

The sub-stone base material must be combined with the subgrade (the subgrade, which could be soil, stones, etc.) to ensure that concrete floors will not crack.

A concrete mix is also important in ensuring structural integrity will remain strong for many years.

This is especially true in high-traffic areas like driveways, multi-storey parking lots, and warehouses where machinery is used daily.

Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking

For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.

In colder climates, you may need more.

An air entertaining additive can also be added to enhance the floor’s durability and resistance from cracking caused by heavy traffic and weather.

Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results

A solvent-based acrylic sealant can be applied to patterned concrete once it has dried. This will improve its appearance. Water-based acrylics will cause more problems, so be careful with these for patterned concrete.

The sealant can be used every four-years to preserve the look of your patterned concrete.

Although it is not mandatory, it will ensure that your driveway or any other area of patterned concrete remains beautiful for many years.
