Tarmac Driveway After Care Tips in Mansfield

A tarmac driveway that is maintained well will last for many years. These tips will help you protect your investment.

1 – Don't drive for more than 2-3 days on freshly laid asphalt.

It is best to wait until it gets warm before driving on the asphalt. Please give us a call if there are any questions regarding a driveway or path made of asphalt.

It is worth noting, however, that driveways are at their weakest during the first year. As it ages, the asphalt will become more hardened and grey.

2 – Driveway manoeuvres

Before you turn the steering wheel, be always on the move.

Scuff marks can form on the surface of the vehicle if the wheel is turned while it is stationary. There is the possibility of serious damage if you keep creating scuffs in the same spot.

3 – Avoid 'point loads', or spread the pressure.

Point loads are objects that exert undued pressure on a single spot. This is something like the motorbike stand, which removes the pressure from the tyres but then puts them through the small area of the metal foot. Another example of point loads is the feet or ladders of caravans.

If it is impossible to avoid, the trick is to place a board under your feet/stand. This will distribute the pressure over a larger area and spread the burden.

4 – Get rid of spills right away

You can damage the driveway’s tarmac surface by using oil or detergent. No matter how large or small the spillage may be, don’t forget to clean it up.

You should immediately soak up any liquid – dry sand, cat litter and sawdust all work well. They can also be disposed of easily through household waste.

Make sure to clean up any leftovers with a mixture water-based washing detergent.
